With a budget of €10 million, the film employed extensive use of CGI to recreate the fantastic and surreal world of the comics. The special effects team, led by Raúl Romanillos, Pau Costa, and José Quetglas, won the Goya Award for Best Special Effects, a testament to the technical ambition of the project. Director Miguel Bardem replaced Javier Fesser from the first film, bringing his own vision and approach to the source material.
