The film follows John Constantine (Keanu Reeves), a cynical, chain-smoking occult detective stranded in Los Angeles. Having survived a suicide attempt in his youth, Constantine is temporarily dammed to Hell but allowed to return to Earth. He spends his life exorcising demons and sending them back to the underworld, hoping to earn a ticket to Heaven before terminal lung cancer claims his life.
