The earliest recorded Thai queer film dates back more than seven decades. “It’s All Because of a Kathoey” (also known as Kathoey Pen Het ), a 13-minute silent short film released in 1954, is now considered “the oldest queer cinematic representation in Thai mediascape”. Scholars at the Thai Film Archive confirmed that this film “has significantly changed the historiography of Thai queer cinema”.
