PKGi (pronounced "Package Installer") is a homebrew application for jailbroken PS3 consoles. Think of it as a custom, community-driven version of the PlayStation Store. It allows you to browse, search, and download games, PS2 Classics, PSone titles, DLC, and game updates directly to your console’s hard drive or USB storage.
Note: As of 2025, popular databases include "NoPayStation" and "AlvRo’s Collection". Search for "PS3 PKGi database URL 2025" for current links.
Technical and legal considerations
If you open PKGi immediately after installation, you will encounter an error stating that the database or configuration file is missing. PKGi requires text files containing direct links to download content.
The app cannot find your database. Ensure the text file is named exactly pkgi.txt (check for double extensions like pkgi.txt.txt on Windows) and placed in the correct USRDIR folder. 2. Error: "Download failed: HTTP Error 404"
is a homebrew application for the PlayStation 3 that allows you to download and install .pkg files (game packages, DLC, updates, and themes) directly to your console over the internet.
You cannot install PKGi on a standard, unmodified PS3. Sony’s firmware blocks unsigned code. Therefore, you need a console running custom firmware (CFW) or hybrid firmware (HFW) with HEN (Homebrew Enabler).
