Scarlett Johansson is perfectly cast as a physical presence; she moves with a rigid, mechanical precision that suits a cyborg. However, the script gives her little emotional range to explore beyond "confused" and "stoic." The standout is Pilou Asbæk as Batou, her partner. He captures the gritty, rugged charm of the anime character perfectly.
